Umm, my brand new, nice shiney blog crashed on me.

Actually, it was the MySQL database that crashed – in particular the mysqld daemon on the FreeBSD box I run this lot on went down and refused to come back up.

I’ve still no idea what caused it to fail. Nor why it refused to come back on. In the end, I had to delete the whole MySQL package and re-compile and re-install it, using a couple of compile-time directives to force it to make use of Pthreads (don’t ask!) – this, it seems, was enough to keep it up and running and so far at least, stable.

I’ve spent the morning making sure this blog was pretty much as it was. It’s almost there, just a bit of fine tuning and I’ll be back where I was.

Regrettably, I hadn’t had it up running long enough to have taken a database backup. But then, because it wasn’t up for long, there wasn’t really anything worth backing up! Let’s put it all down to a learning experience (unless it happens again, in which case I shall seriously stamp my foot!)
